Live-in before marriage – Why this lifestyle deserves a chance

“Living together before marriage- can you imagine a bigger sin?”

Ah, yes! Yes, I can. But that’s a rant for another time.

Living-in is a big decision. And you shouldn’t consider it just because your parents believe their child in a live-in would cause the sun to explode, oceans to boil, and the end of the world as we know it.

The overbearing population aside, live-in is a part of relationships. It’s got its advantages and drawbacks. But, “what will people say” is not a viable enough reason to throw the idea in the dustbin.

Before you consider if live-in is the right next step for you and your partner, let me tell you why I think it’s worth the chance.

  1. Know your partner inside-out

Every party puts their best foot forward when you have limited access to them. It’s human nature. But when you live together, you get to see things you wouldn’t have otherwise.

She hates pepperoni on her pizza. You often wake up to her coding at night. She’s just unable to share chocolates.

He always gets up after midnight for a snack. He wakes up with you snaked around him almost every morning. He can’t stand how you invite over every dog you meet.

Live-in relationships open doors to really knowing your partner. Their likes and dislikes, pet peeves – you get to glimpse who they are on a regular, boring, uneventful Friday night just as much as when you go out on a five-star date with them.

  1. You have a roommate, with benefits

If you’re already spending a lot of your time with your partner, moving in is the cost-effective method for both of you. You’ll share:

  • Rent
  • Groceries
  • Dinner bills, and
  • Money

You earn, you spend. You share expenses for the facilities you both use. You save more as well. And you’ll always have someone to come home to.

Does that sound so bad?

  1. A sudden avalanche of responsibilities? Not so much

Marriage is very much synonymous with responsibility, especially in India.

If you directly jump into a marriage. You don’t merely marry a guy or a girl – you marry into a family. You’ve got expectations, duties, parents, in-laws and a changed life.

And to top it, you have a spouse that you still need to befriend, never mind spending a lifetime with.

In a live-in, you have a partner whom you know well. The basic understanding is – we take one change at a time and adjust accordingly.

There is no flood of life-changes that you must handle. Responsibilities are mutually discussed and accepted or discarded.

  1. Compatibility check? Yes, please!

It’s the best part of a live-in. You are free to walk out if you can see that things aren’t working well. The break-up could be ugly, or smooth, depending on how you handle it.

It’s a no-fuss, minimal-mess method to check whether or not two people are compatible.

Try getting out of marriage. The paperwork alone would tire your soul.

Try live-in- the drawbacks aren’t sensible enough to not try it anyway.

I often wonder, you may have too, why two consenting adults living together ruffles the feathers of a majority of our delightful Indian population.

The replies – “But, there is no social responsibility!”, “What if he takes advantage of you and runs away?”, “She is using you for money, can’t you see?”, “What face would we have left in the society?”, “Because he’s an engineer and you’re a nurse- where’s the match?”.

And the time-tested classic, “What would the neighbors think?”.

Like I said, not sensible enough!

Opt for a live-in if you want to. The social stigma can be paralyzing. Don’t let it hold you back.

If your partner is the one you like, trust, and see some of your future with, go ahead!

Talent Resourcing is not Head-Hunting: A View of Recruitment 3.0

How does a company recruit the best talent for a job? Matthew Jeffery, Head of Talent Acquisition at Autodesk in an article from 2011, says, traditionally there been two stages to spotting real talent.

The Process of Recruitment

Recruitment process 1 was during the pre-digital days when a company advertised in mainstream media, waited for candidates to apply, short-listed them, put them through an interview and picked their ideal candidate. Recruitment process 2 was equally bureaucratic, but the difference was that candidates started applying digitally with job-sites through online resumes.

Redundancy

Jeffery says that Recruitment of talent in the first two formats is now redundant. He says a new way of talent resourcing has caught up to the advantage of the ones creating opportunity and those who use the chance to enhance their skills. Matthew Jeffery calls this new phase of talent scouting Recruitment 3.0, through the effective use of social media.

The Difference?

The primary difference is to segregate job-seekers as against talent pooling. Job-seekers may be qualified, technically-equipped and to a greater or lesser degree experienced in a given category. These candidates would only be 10{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616} of those applying for a role in any given sector. 90{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616} of the candidates are either unreached or unaware of the openings.

Potential Talent

Jeffery terms the 90{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616} potentially talented but non-active as a segment. The talent potential could have skill-sets far more varied and superior to the usual job-seekers who have got used to the grind.

The way to woo a potential talent would be by defining a candidate as a volunteer to an electoral process. Choice thereby clearly emphasised as a social process where everyone is, hypothetically, talented.

Too Good to be True?

Although this might sound too good to be true, there are at least two sound reasons why Recruitment 3.0 could be the way forward.

The digitisation phase of the first generation has come to an end. Data mobilisation of the old industrial set-up has transformed manufacturing as a sector and as an economic entity.

Shift in Priorities

The old macro-system held through by hierarchy is soon to be dismantled. Digital processing of data has given way to the manufacturing of digitally integrated systems such as Internet of Things (IoT). Traditional capital has given way to impact investment scenarios shifting the way businesses operate at the human scale.

Skilled Choice

The versatile move has scaled up the definition of the job as a skilled choice rather than a mere livelihood. Livelihood itself is increasingly being viewed as a culmination of latent potential rather than as the blue-collar sector of the old industrial system.

This horizontal expansion of business convergence on a global scale makes Recruitment 3.0 as a proposition of high social capital.

Changing Realities

The shift in education as skill enhancement is another important reason why 3.0 holds more than casual water. Honing of specific skills is both a universal value-addition as well as a culture-specific symbol of talent accumulation. This potential was hitherto watered down by academic degrees that prepared nobody to the changing realities of the market.

Slow Change

But as Matthew Jeffrey himself says, employers as a group have barely awoken to infuse an “emotionally-engaged idea of transparent talent resourcing”. There are very few indicators for a breakthrough in creating an employment brand as against the building of corporate brand value.

There are dozens of servers available for your corporate use. The glaring question, however, is which one do you opt for? We recommend Linux servers for their stability, ease of use and smoother operations compared to other open source servers.

Have The Freedom Of Choice With Linux Servers

Linux, as you might be aware, gives you the prerogative to make choices and plenty of them, at that. While it is not very difficult to find a staff that is well acquainted with Linux, it could still be a challenge.

What Do I Do If I Don’t Have Linux Experts On My Team?

First things first – if you do not have Linux SMEs (subject matter experts) onboard, it is recommended that you avoid the major distribution systems. But, in case you have a great team, there few other alternatives you’d rather choose.

There are several distribution systems such as Debian, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Fedora, CentOS and the likes which can be used for enterprises of all sizes.

But How Do You Know Which One Is Right For You?

It all depends on your business requirements. Whether you want to opt for a run server or use one for storing data or using it further for restoration, distros can be used for all their intended purposes.

However, most enterprises prefer something that is high end and more sophisticated with a better review or track record, corporate backing capacity and durability.

So Which Ones Are On Offer?

Several distros are rolled out based on subscriptions. Red Hat, Novell, Mandriva, Xandros are known to charge a nominal subscription fee. However, the benefits they offer are manifold and cannot be ignored.

  • Choice of software updates, properly documented details, and round-the-clock technical support teams to assist you in every way. You can be assured that you get nothing but the best product on offer.
  • In case you are looking for something that is free and more suited to your needs, there are distros such as Fedora, OpenSUSE, which roll out beta versions which can be used by businesses which are starting out and want to experiment with the server catalog.
  • Manage your cost, compatibility issues, and transition from an old school Windows server to Linux using these distros with ease.
  • Community-based distribution units like Debian and Knoppix are still popular because of their volunteer community. Open source has an added advantage of free bug fixes, code backups, and support.

The beauty of Linux servers lays in the fact that it can be configured as per the business demands. Set up that network configuration or install essential server, Linux gives you the freedom to get your server up and running.

Essential Reasons You Should Be Using A Responsive Website

Responsive Website Keeps Business Ahead Of Competition

Mobile device usage and dependency is growing worldwide at a very rapid pace. By 2020, it is estimated that around 70 percent of the global population will be using smartphones and 6.1 billion smartphones will be in circulation. This shows mobile proliferation is taking over internet surfing.

People are increasingly using smartphones and tablets for tasks that were earlier completed on their desktops. Hence, it is particularly essential for businesses to have websites that are adaptable to the fast-changing technological advancements of society.

Creating a responsive website is a readily achievable solution for all savvy business owners that want to ensure their clients can surf and search information about their services and products on all kinds of devices including tablets, desktop, phone, etc.

Website’s Mobile Presence Is Vital In Google Ranking

Google has revised their search engine algorithms in 2015, which now considers website’s mobile presence in its ranking method. This reason further accelerates the need for responsive website design that also takes into account users on smaller screens.

An adaptable website design is a single website with one URL and one content source that can seamlessly convert itself to fit into different screen sizes based on the user.

That means even when viewing from newer devices including smartwatches, IoT devices, etc., it should cater all kinds of clients needs. This flexibility of the site also enhances its visibility on search engines.

Adaptable Website Design Increases User Traffic

For the companies, it increases their reach to clients on mobile devices that are accounting to be a significantly larger population. It improves lead generation, deals, and conversions. Also, site management, tracking, and reporting become easier.

Mobile Friendly Websites Optimize Browsing Experience

For clients, responsive sites permit them to search for their products and services from the internet using the device of their conveniences such as a mobile or a tablet without distorting the appearance of the website. People are comfortable using their smartphones to search for all their work and life requirements.

However, if the text of the site is jumbled, photo not aligned and scrolling through pages is not simple, smooth and seamless then users are not driven towards it. Hence, a responsive website is a winning situation for both users who value their convenience and companies that want to retain mobile viewers as their clients.

Mobile Compatible Site Is Cost Effective

2Responsive website design will prove to be a time and cost saver for the companies. Instead of operating two versions of one website, allowing them to stay ahead of their rivals that are not mobile-ready.

Creating an adaptable webpage might initially seem to be an expensive process but in the long run, the benefits that come like the decreased expenditure of maintaining two individual sites, etc., will outweigh the costs, reflecting monetary savings.

It is also more comfortable and time-saving to set up and keep a single website compared to having the same as two sites. Also, it convenient to provide custom-made offers on a single site based on location user’s location to drive traffic to your website.

Essential Reasons You Should Be Using A Responsive Website

Responsive web design is a comparatively new design approach which prioritizes the user’s viewing and interacting comfort, irrespective of the device being used. The mobile industry has seen a boom in the last few years. The boom has been so big that it is projected by 2020 the world will have around 9038 million users.

Now that is a pretty huge number to be considered. With the focus shift towards user-friendly websites, it is of utmost importance that companies invest time and effort in building websites that would fare the same on any mobile device or other similar products. Some aspects such as screen size, operating systems, browsers, orientation need to be thought of; responsive web design is the way to move forward.

Drawbacks Of Traditional Web Designing Approach

With traditional website development, developers have to create and maintain different versions of a website for it to play well on a desktop, laptop, mobile device, tablet and so on. This creates an overhead for the developers. A simple change will have to be replicated across multiple times, in the process increasing the maintenance costs as well.

Canonical tags are traditionally being used to mark a single page as it’s own source. Duplicate pages can use the same tags to refer to the source page. They are also used to avoid duplication of data in different versions of the website. With the overhead of maintenance, these tags can be a real headache.

SEO rankings also take a hit, as different websites have to be maintained and promoted. With Google now providing preference to mobile-friendly websites, it is essential to step out of the box and embrace new designing approaches.

Benefits Of A Responsive Website

  • Super Fluid Content And Improved User Experience

With responsive website design, the whole content and design of a website would flow onto screens of different devices and their respective configurations. This, in turn, improves the user experience. As websites are now considered as the portal through which potential customers can be roped in, improving their viewing experience is surely worth the effort.

  • Easy On The Wallet

With the overhead of maintaining multiple versions of a website going for a toss, this approach proves to be much more cost-effective.

  • Manageable And Concentrated SEO Management

Any changes required, now need to be done in one place rather than on various versions. SEO management also becomes easier for the same reason. Traffic can be directed to a single website, around which you can build your promotional activities.

The problem with inbound links is also resolved with this design approach. Inbound links coming in from different devices can be counted in since the responsive design will compile all these links into a single URL.

This, in turn, helps increase your website’s ranking in the process.

Websites have come a long way from its inception. As users tend to judge a product, brand or company with its digital presence, it is essential you put in efforts in the digital channel.

Why fragmented, copied data is a problem in finance

The concept of Master Data Management isn’t something new, yet it is needed now more than ever. As marketers in the 21st century, there are a multitude of tools available to us.

These are the days when Machine Learning, Automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have reached a point where we can apply them on our data-sets.

We use them to manage messages across channels, find new prospects, study behavior of leads and even sell a lot better. I could go on to say that with the rise of Big Data, Business Intelligence isn’t a problem either.

The problem we face now is data. No, not a lack of it, but rather, too much of it – in too many places.

Data, and its fragmentation

Marketing trade has seen the rise of a lot of tools, such as Marketo, Salesforce, Demandbae, etc. They are what I call ‘purpose-built’ and have excellent stand-alone features. While they boast of having data management features, the ‘management’ only happens within the application.

The greater the number of tools, greater the problem of fragmentation. Data exists in too many places. The change in this data, when done in only one place, makes the entire database incomplete, inconsistent and disconnected.

Extend this across the number of applications used; we lose the ability to leverage all that we know about a channel, campaign or customer. This results in what I call ‘generalized’ offers, deteriorating customer satisfaction.

Loss of Consistency and Data Traps

Due to a limitation on the number of resources and historical development, data is fragmented across the entire database which creates ‘Bad-Data-Points’ as well as various data traps.

For example, the presence of typos in ‘zeroes’ in a series. Bad data can occur for a spread constructed by subtracting a two-time series that might be individually reasonable, yet constructed with methodologies that were inconsistent.

Impact

It’s also common that proxy spread index data is used for a particular spread, either because the data doesn’t exist, or the number of spreads is too great for the risk model to handle explicitly.

All of this results in a loss of consistency, resulting in business data getting ‘siloed,’ even if the employees are working efficiently.

Finance Operations

A recent report indicated that out of 380 CFOs, 90{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616} are crippled with financial data. This results in delays for top management to make critical decisions.

Finance teams spend over 80{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616} of their time gathering the data and then cleaning it. However, they only get the remaining 20{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616} to actually build strategies.

Finance needs operational support. Another thing it needs is less fragmentation and copied data. A copy results in old data being used again and again, which has the potential to increase losses and inaccuracies in the end product.

The Bottom Line

The data your company holds is exclusive your company. No other marketer or company can replicate it. That being said, you cannot overlook the importance of building a strategy that manages that data.

The end-to-end enterprise data has a lot of value and is pretty powerful in transforming the value you deliver to your customers.

More start-ups in DU – here’s why we need it! (Rank Princess-SEO)

9-6 monotonous job? – Nah! The question that sprints is “will it be fulfilling”? The answer that would mostly echo is “NO.”  As a 23-year-old grad from a reputed university, would you like to join the pile of dead fish and go with the flow? Or, do you wish to join a startup or maybe start your own business, provide employment and revolutionize? A traditional job because it would pay good and is stable or a startup which will grow and flourish with your blood and sweat? The former looks appealing, but the latter is satisfying, isn’t it?

So, comes the question should universities help boost startups and help provide primary education on “entrepreneurial skill” at the least? How would it benefit the youth or the school per se?  Colleges and universities accommodate a diverse crowd from all nooks and corners of the country and the world. Youngsters who just wish to prove their worth beaming with fresh and innovative ideas are overflowing in canteens, classrooms, gardens and at any place that you can think of.

Why DU should promote startups

1)    While in university, the students learn responsibilities and teamwork. They work in close knitted units to try and accomplish the toughest of tasks. That bonding and sense of team unity are one of the pillars in the foundation for a successful startup.

2)    Secondly, the can-do attitude is something that floods university and college campuses. These foals need someone to groom them into Arabian horses. Who else other than the professors and mentors? These people are always ready to help you with a smile on their face.

3)    Universities have auditoriums, meeting places, chill-out zones, free food, and internet. What else does a young entrepreneur require to lay the foundation of his/her Fortune 500 company but cheap as well as free resources?

4)    Universities can also help guide, motivate, and even filter the most innovative ideas and may be funding them.

What startups came out of DU?

In addition to multiple other startups, recently students of DU launched a startup to change the waste management system in India. Waste management is apparently one of the significant problems we face. Two aspiring engineering students are walking down towards the metro, notice a garbage bin and Voila! A brilliant idea struck these young minds, and there it was – the birth of We-Convert. The concept is pretty simple and would work like a charm: E-collectors that will accept waste material and in return generate some rewards. Isn’t that awesome? Clean the country and in the process have a stable earning. Win-win for all. Another startup HelloMeal promises to provide an economical meal at your doorstep. Order through an app, a toll-free number, and no delivery charges. The founder (a grad from DU’s Swami Shraddhanand College) mentioned that he and his friends came up with the idea after facing food related inconvenience at college. The app, they say, is doing good as they receive almost 150 orders a day.

The crux of it is that in today’s world, the market doesn’t appreciate tradition but innovation. Showcase your ideas, test your skills, understand the requirement, break the barriers and do what you’re passionate about and make things happen. Yes, we can!

Here’s why we need more startups at DU(Rank Princess- SEO)

Are you a graduate with entrepreneurial dreams? Or, are you someone who is a part of the corporate world trying to break the shackles to follow your dreams of being an entrepreneur?  Are you afraid to travel the road less traveled?

Every excellent business empire today was once a frivolous dream. What made the difference was the men behind these ventures were not apprehensive of the first step.

Here are a few reasons why you should work towards accomplishing your idea and your dreams.

  1. Now is the time

With the Government of India aiding start-ups and manufacturing in the country like never before, the next few years seem more promising for first-time entrepreneurs.

Going by the Economic Survey of 2015-2016, India is home to more than 19,000 startups that are tech-enabled. Also, in recent years, Indian startups have seen an unexpected valuation. This surge is more than promising.

In the first half of 2015, Indian startups raised a whopping 3.5 billion American dollars in funding, and there are close to 490 active investors in India (as of the end of 2015). The number of deals signed has only increased to 18{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616} in 2016. This growth suggests a definite growth curve in the future years too.

In 2016, India was ranked Number 3 in the world in the number of start-ups. Certain organizations like NASSCOM plan to support close to 10,000 startups in India in the coming years. Regulatory bodies like SEBI have now eased the norms, and it is far more comfortable for the companies to raise funds through the IPO route. Therefore, raising money for your start-up is not as arduous as it once was.

If you have an idea that stands out, you will get all around support from the right institutions when you put it across.

  1. Incubators in the university campuses provide the right platform.

To aid the ‘Start-Up India’ initiative, the leading universities launched start-up incubators within the campuses to nurture business start-ups. These nurseries have seen success in certain IITs, IIMs and Delhi University.

What is interesting is the growth rate of these incubators. 2016 saw a 40{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616} increase in the number of these nurseries, with aid from government and corporate. In the same year, the state helped set up 30 new incubators on the university campus and close to 66{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616} of them have been established in the Tier II and Tier III cities.

Another interesting fact is that there has been a 25{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616} increase in the number of student entrepreneurs. Can you believe in 2016 alone, 350 startups were launched by young students?

Lithics.in, a renowned online marketing place promoting handicrafts, paintings and other gift items from the weaker sections of the society was formed by three students of Delhi University. They are housed in Technology Business Incubator under the Cluster Innovation Centre at Delhi University. Through tie-ups with NGOs, they market products from the weaker sections of the society and have received several accolades and awards for their work. Lithics.in is an example of a successful campus aided venture.

iii.    Broad societal benefits

As a society, we continually face challenges from all aspects. To tackle these problems and to make ourselves visible on a global platform, we need to embrace innovation and change. How can you promote innovation in the nation? The answer is simple, by encouraging startups.

Startups also carve a path to discover solutions to the most pressing societal problems.  If you have an answer to any of the issues the society faces, you could bring about change benefitting the large sections of people.

Take the example of two students from Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences (DU). Their idea was born while lamenting about the waste management strategy in the city. This led to the formation of We-Convert. They introduced a machine called E-collector which accepts the user’s waste and generates rewards in return. After fruitful collaborations, the venture is eyeing revenue of Rs 67 lakhs for the fiscal year 17-18 and is starting its expansions in many cities across India.

A 30-year-old Delhi University graduate along with an IITian started Zophop, an app to help the daily commuters of public transport. The app supports real-time tracking of the position of buses and its time of arrival at any stop along its route. Passengers can also purchase tickets in advance. Zophop has made the commute more accessible for passengers in more than 15 cities across India. They smoothened out the challenging commute time for lakhs of daily travelers.

 The future seems promising.

India needs close to 20 million jobs a year, and as per a global data, it is the startups that provide a large percentage of employment when compared to established enterprises. Startups aid in the economic reforming of a nation and that is what India needs at the moment.

When you delve into the startup bandwagon, you are not just accomplishing your dreams but bringing about a change in a small yet significant way by creating more jobs and helping in the economic growth of the nation.

You just graduated. You have a plan to get to your dream job. You decide to start slow. But tell me, would you like to join a startup fresh out of college as opposed to a well-established, revenue-generating, high-profile company?

Why Should DU Invite More Startups during Internship/Placement Season?

DU students have created startups like We-Convert, 3Dexters, HelloMeal, and Spamster. You are asking for reasons to consider joining one. Well, here they are!

  1. More Responsibilities Equals Hands-On Experience

Startups have limited personnel. There is no ‘watch today, do later’ attitude there. You’ve to figure out tasks you’ve never committed before. Thus, you learn more than you could ever have gained by merely observing.

  1. Firsthand Participation Translates into Bigger Opportunities

A Future Workplace Survey says 91{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616} millennials expect to switch jobs within three years. Another NACE Job Outlook Survey says that employers seek leadership, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and work ethic primarily.

In a startup, you juggle different responsibilities, long to-do lists, and inherent risks. Whenever you switch, this versatility makes you the better candidate.

  1. Tough Supervision Means Improved Resilience

Startups are small, close-knit units. Credit, as well as backlash, comes easy because your work is visible. Thus, you learn to find solutions, endure, and tackle tricky scenarios.

  1. Opportunities Seem Endless

Startup remuneration is often inadequate. But, they offer chances to grow. You get to branch out, learn new skills, try them in real-case scenarios. You discover the significance of hard work, tenacity, creative thinking, accountability, and personal ownership.

  1. And There Is Free Food

And an enthusiastic environment, chilled-out colleagues, determined teams, and the excitement of accomplishment.

Startups versus Fancy Industry Jobs-There’s No Winner, so Choose Carefully

Between a corporate job and a startup one, people tend to flock to the former. And why not?

You crave job security. High-end companies will pay you well enough. They’ll offer additional benefits.

In startups, the working hours are ridiculous. So is the pay. There is minimal room for error. And you can’t tell if or when the newfound company will run out of capital and shut down. In fact, 25{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616}-30{ed162fdde9fdc472551df9f31f04601345edf7e4eff6ea93114402690d8fa616} of backed up startups fail, says the National Venture Capital Association.

But, when Startups flourish, and you tag along from the beginning, you gain tremendous experience via hours and hours of innovation, brainstorming and active participation. You learn your limits and capabilities. These help you build an exceptional career.

How Data Science is Revolutionising e-commerce(Rank Princess-SEO)

How Data Science is Revolutionising e-commerce(Rank Princess-SEO)

In the digital world that we live in, there is more data than ever.  That means more information about everything that surrounds us. Now, this information can be used to do some pretty amazing things, and the present e-commerce Industry is a shining example of that.

About Data Science

Data Science refers to the interdisciplinary study of the scientific methods and processes used to manage the source of data, understand its representation and convert it into useful information.

Every organization generates a lot of data from the consumers through the services that they use. Data scientists can help those organisations use that data to serve those consumers even better.

e-commerce Supercharged

In the business world, it is a self-evident fact that for any business to serve its customers well, it has to know those customers and their preferences and then craft their business plan accordingly.

Traditionally, this was done by the store operators and other executives who directly interacted with the customers. They had a pulse of the market and the direction in which the wind was blowing. But this method was inefficient and barely useful in the long run, and not to mention unusable in the e-commerce industry. This is where Data Science comes in.

  1. Knowing Customers

The biggest aid Data and Data Scientists provide to e-commerce businesses is in knowing the customers. Companies gain this knowledge through the online behaviour of the consumers: their interests, the product they often view, their possible needs, etc.

This helps the companies to know the consumers as well as they see themselves and simplifies the purchasing process.

  1. Selling Better

Data scientists have revealed that consumers’ buying pattern and brand loyalty is ever-changing and not as predictable as previously thought. This has made gaining consumer insight even more crucial for any e-commerce business.

Data sciences have provided the answers to various questions that have enabled the companies to sell better, such as:

  • What demographic of people are buying your products?
  • Which products interest your consumers?
  • How can you contribute to the shopping experience of your consumers?
  • What encourages the consumers to buy the products that they do?
  1. Marketing Done Right

Data Sciences has revolutionized marketing as a whole. With information collected from users about their spending habits, browsing and shopping patterns, more personalized marketing campaigns can be implemented.

These things have helped the businesses with advertisement retargeting, channel mix optimization and have increased the overall attentive time spend by the consumers on the company’s adverts.

This means more specific commercials for the end users and more effective marketing campaigns for the businesses.

On the Flip Side

Whenever the topic of collecting information from the public comes up, questions of security and privacy emerge. This is only natural as cyber security is a pivotal part of the digital lives that we lead.

Companies ensure users’ privacy through ever-updating encrypting technologies and firewalls. And to further enforce security, it is made sure that the sensitive data of users are stored locally on their devices and not on the cloud.

To say that the world of e-commerce has changed forever by Data Sciences would not be an understatement. And with more data scientist working together to further enhance our shopping experience, the future is only looking brighter.
